Father and daughter
We're Francesco Tarantino and his daughter. We keep bees in Palermo and sell their honey, Sicilian olive oil and eggs from our own hens.
The yellow suit
Francesco is the one in the yellow bee suit. You'll find him at the apiary, behind the Mielerie Aperte stall or up on a roof, bent over comb the bees have built under the tiles.
He runs the farm with his daughter. We read every order that comes in through the website and confirm it ourselves, by phone.
We go and fetch the bees
When a swarm leaves its hive, it looks for a new home: a branch, a hole in a wall, the space under a roof. It happens mostly in spring, and people's first thought is often to call pest control.
We go and fetch them instead. We gather them up, sometimes ten litres of bees in a single call-out, and take them to a hive where they can keep working.

Our hens live outdoors, with no intensive farming. They lay only a few eggs, and we sell those few in Palermo.

We take part in Mielerie Aperte, Italy's open apiary days, when beekeepers open their workshops to the public. In 2025 we welcomed visitors on 18 May and 16 November, with live honey extraction and a honey tasting.
We also run educational days outside Palermo, for example at Azienda agricola Villare, in Messina.
