Rescuing 10 litres of bees
A huge swarm, around 10 litres of bees, collected and taken somewhere safe. Plus what to do if you find one near your home.
This time the swarm was really big: around 10 litres of bees. We collected them patiently and moved them into a hive, where they can carry on working in peace.
Swarm removal is an important part of what we do. Bees aren’t a danger to get rid of: they’re precious and, with the right care, they can be moved without anyone getting hurt.
Found a swarm?
Between spring and summer you might spot a cluster of bees on a tree, a roof or inside a wall. Here’s what to do:
- Stay calm and keep your distance. A swarm on the move usually isn’t aggressive, but it’s best not to disturb it.
- Don’t use insecticide, water or smoke. The bees get agitated and may die.
